Dear friends,

In the the past 2 months, many of you have kindly offered your ideas on what you hope to achieve at BodyChromatics, and what health goals are the most important to you. As such, I have 2 exciting announcements that will hope to address some of your wish lists:

Feel Like a Star weekly Gyrokinesis group classes. Every Sunday at 5 P.M.
Better Together Duet Sessions for couples or friends, by appointment and tailored to your goals and body types.

As we continue to grow our community of “feel good, look good, happy gyro-ers,” I appreciate your continued feedback and suggestions.

Separately, I am thrilled to announce that Daddy Long Legs has arrived safely in Beijing! This is the Leg Extension Unit*, and belongs to what we call “Specialised Equipment” in the Gyrotonic world. Daddy Long Legs is beneficial to aid in lengthening and strengthening the body. It works with pulleys and springs, making it a unique, low-impact but effective way to build extreme core strength. It will also help sculpt the hamstrings, arms and back, glutes and abdominals. Starting in May 2015, I will offer a series of Introductions to all the Gyrotonic equipment in my home studio. Stay tuned!

Sunny days are (almost) here again, bloom marvellously my dears,

J. xx

Dear friends, I have exciting news to share:

First, Daddy Long Legs is coming to town! Come March 2015, the Leg Extension Unit (thus the long legs) will make its first-ever debut in China! Along with the Jump Stretch Board which I brought in last year, BodyChromatics is the only dedicated space in mainland China housing these specialised Gyrotonic equipment — and owning the trademark and licences to teach on them.

The Leg Extension Unit works on elongating and extending the legs. In this machine, the weights come through the bottom, meaning that any leg extension, lifts, or upper body work builds even more strength, more coordination, and more core. Pure fun!!

Secondly, I have decided to fly to Los Angeles for 8 days of intensive training with my very first Masters Sebastian Plettenberg and Erika Hassan. See more info and pics in the attached PDF.

Finally, to those who celebrate it, Happy Valentine’s Day and Happy Chinese New Year.

Love and light,

J. xx

Dear friends,

As we near the end of 2014, I want to thank each of you for being a part of BodyChromatics, whether as students, partnerships, friends, mentors or teachers. Thank you for allowing me to teach with creativity, soul, and love.

To my students, thank you for your trust and the opportunity to learn together. To practice Gyrotonic is to practice putting patience and forgiveness into yourself, to make peace with that which you cannot do, to strive to perfect that which you can soon do, and to be proud and keep refining that which you have mastered. Just as my Masters have helped me find my footsteps and refine my approach to life, so I have witnessed how you blossomed and grew with grace and determination.

Finally, I include pictures and scribbles from training with Founder Juliu, ideas to battle the cold and dry winter, and Max Ehrmann’s “Desiderata” as a little New Year reflection.

All the best for a fantastic 2015!

Love and light,

J. xx

Dear friends,

You can’t buy love… but you can certainly work your way into better energy! In the attached PDF, I discuss our major energetic centres and how they contribute to our intuition.

Then I introduce 10 scientific and technology-based ideas that can enhance well-being. I experimented with all of these this summer with Juliu Horvarth (Gyrotonic Founder) during my Germany training. Some are nature-driven like Earthing, some are fancier like Quantum Wave Lasers or Infrared Amethyst Mats. Hope you find some inspiration to get in touch with your chi!

Love and light,
J. xx

Go placidly amid the noise and haste,
and remember what peace there may be in silence.
As far as possible without surrender
be on good terms with all persons.
Speak your truth quietly and clearly;
and listen to others,
even the dull and the ignorant;
they too have their story.
Avoid loud and aggressive persons,
they are vexations to the spirit.
If you compare yourself with others,
you may become vain and bitter;
for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself.
Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans.

Keep interested in your own career, however humble;
it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time.
Exercise caution in your business affairs;
for the world is full of trickery.
But let this not blind you to what virtue there is;
many persons strive for high ideals;
and everywhere life is full of heroism.

Be yourself.
Especially, do not feign affection.
Neither be cynical about love;
for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment
it is as perennial as the grass.

Take kindly the counsel of the years,
gracefully surrendering the things of youth.
Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune.
But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings.
Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness.
Beyond a wholesome discipline,
be gentle with yourself.

You are a child of the universe,
no less than the trees and the stars;
you have a right to be here.
And whether or not it is clear to you,
no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.

Therefore be at peace with God,
whatever you conceive Him to be,
and whatever your labors and aspirations,
in the noisy confusion of life keep peace with your soul.

With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams,
it is still a beautiful world.
Be cheerful.
Strive to be happy.

Max Erhmann. Desiderata. 1952.

SCRIBBLES: 12 days with Juliu Horvath, the Gyrotonic Founder

My training with Juliu was rich and intense, full of new challenges, surprises, new friendships, and inspiration. About 40 Gyrotonic teachers (male and female) attended from around the world — Israel, Greece, France, Italy, Spain, Germany, Brazil, Argentina, Hawaii, the U.S., the U.K., Korea, and myself from Beijing.

Mornings started with Earthing by walking bare feet on grasslands near the Black Forest to connect with the Earth’s natural energy. Then we did Scrubbing, where we dry scrub our entire body with towels, awakening our skin. After that, we began our 8-hour routine of Gyrokinesis exercises. We had extensive 2-hour Breathing sessions every day, cleansing from within. We took long afternoon breaks and explored saunas and laser treatments. In the evenings we ate wholeheartedly — and in my case — enjoyed some wine as well!

It was an exploration into new depths within, as we pushed ourselves to new limits of physical strength, flexibility, cardio stamina, focus and concentration.

It was also an experience into the philosophical and meditative aspects of Gyrotonic, where movements are but simple conversations with yourself and with the Earth. For instance, the curl of the spine is a bow to the earth; a lift of the chest is an orchid in blossom; the stretch of the leg a release to take flight; the opening of the arms a surrender to that which created you; the uprightness of the body an expression of freedom and of honesty.

Beyond the physical, Gyrotonic is like an art form that awakens the flow of energy within and around. It is like an attitude that instills gratefulness and practicality, an experience that allows you to learn and re-learn about your innermost self. Above all, it is a lifestyle, a choice to go through every day with ease, confidence, balance, and beauty in the soul.
